Artist's Comments

A tea set I made as a trade for a friends work. The style and shape are based on his personality.

Wow... I like it very much. The shapes are fascinating; the teapot looks more like some sort of old jug - like Galadriel's water jug, I suppose - than a teapot.
:iconrynomite:
I am realy glad you like it. Thank you.

:iconrynomite:

i seriously miss high school for almost only one reason. i had no classes in the afternoon my senior year, and i hung out in the ceramics lab the whole time, every day. i wasn't terribly good yet, but then the real world came and plucked me out of my wonderful "free" lab, and since i have no way to make anything anymore, i haven't had my hands covered in nice muddy clay in front of a potters wheel in years. nearly 5 years. god. it seems like forever ago.

anyway, your stuff is quite awesome. i love it, and you did a wonderful job with the glaze/underglaze/etc. you kick the pants off my semi-crooked "rice" bowl i haphazardly made on the wheel (my only good enough wheel attempt that i bothered to have fired). not that i should be comparing us anyway. you obvioulsy have dedicated time and effort into honing your skills.

and yes, they should add a nice ceramics section for people that have such wonderful talent in this art, such as yourself.

rock on!

Thanks for the kind words.
My high school situation was similar. I am dyslecsic. They teach school in a funny way. A way for "normal" thinking people. Not saying it’s a bad thing, just not good for me. I would skip out of Math and US History to go play on the wheel. Most of my friends would skip class to do other things that " alter the mind". Non prescription "things" . I fell in love with throwing on the wheel. It was the one thing that I was really good at. Once school was over I got a job doing production pottery. Two years. Two years of making the same mug, and oil candle over and over again. That gets you really really good.

If you live in Wisconsin, I will probably be teaching at an inclusive collaborative studio I just got involved in. You sound like you know what you’re doing so if you just wanted some wheel time, that’s not a big deal.

Rock off!

oddly enough, i was born in wisconsin (lacrosse),but i spent the last 21 years in the NYC metro area. sadly, i would love to take your class but it's pretty much impossible. but it does remind me that there are probably places i could take classes in my area, and i'm considering actually going to college, so maybe i can take a class on that as well. thanks for the offer all the same, cause i appreciate a fellow artist offering a hand here and there.

yeah, my ceramics instructor in HS basically said that it takes many many years of doing nothing but learning to center your clay to get good. maybe someday i'll be able to afford my own wheel, so i can spend some of my spare time working on it. i just LOVE it though, it's very soothing, and it totally destresses you. i often said, there is nothing more relaxing than being wrist deep in a pile of clay. but then again, i'm insane.

rock on!
